Tribunals with effect from April 2009

The First-tier and Upper Tribunals

The Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act ('TCEA') creates a new unified tribunal structure, comprising the First-tier and Upper Tribunals, under the Senior President of Tribunals (currently Lord Justice Sullivan)1. It also replaces the Council on Tribunals, the supervisory body for tribunals, with the Administrative Justice and Tribunals Council, which has been given a broader remit2. The practice and procedure of the First-tier and Upper Tribunals is governed by Tribunal Procedure Rules3 made by the Tribunal Procedure Committee and approved by the Lord Chancellor4.
