Although Northern Ireland is part of the UK's VAT system, the Northern Ireland Protocol (negotiated as part of the UK's Brexit withdrawal agreement) means that Northern Ireland maintains alignment with the EU VAT rules for goods – including goods moving between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
