6.4 Outbound employees on assignment

Austria

In the absence of a bilateral agreement (6.1.2), an Austrian citizen who is posted abroad has the right to remain within the Austrian social security system for up to five years for health purposes. This means that for the duration of their stay in a non-contracting state, the employees and their accompanying relatives receive the health insurance benefits to which they are entitled from their employer.

However, the employer is obliged to notify the health insurance provider of the occurrence of an insured event (illness, inability to work due to illness and maternity) within one month.
