Belgium has a comprehensive set of labour laws covering all aspects of the employment relationship, much of which derives from EU Directives. Belgium also has a comprehensive network of Collective Bargaining Agreements, which are ratified by the Belgian government so they have the force of law.
Employment contracts
All employees must have an employment contract. In its absence, the employee is assumed to have a permanent appointment (this confers more employment protection than a fixed-term contract). Companies with more than 100 employees must have a Works Council which must meet on a monthly basis and be provided with regular information on company productivity and performance.
