6.1.1 EU social security agreement

Hungary

6.1ÌýÌýÌýÌý Social security for globally mobile employees

Persons are statutorily treated as insured in Hungary, if:

  1. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý they are Hungarian nationals, or

  2. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý they arrived from the European Economic Area (EEA) and have tax residency in Hungary, or

  3. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý they are citizens from a third country and have settled in Hungary

This wide scope of Hungarian insurance does not cover diplomats or employees of international bodies. Employees transferred (posted, assigned, seconded or leased) to Hungary are also not insured supposing that their employment in Hungary will not extend to more than two years, and any former Hungarian employment was finished more than three years earlier. (This also relates to third-country nationals regardless of whether or not they arrived from a country having a bilateral agreement on social security with Hungary.)

Beyond the EU member states, Hungary has several international treaties for bilateral social security. Such agreements are in place with the following countries:

  3. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý Bosnia-Herzegovina

  4. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý Canada

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý India
