9.2 Work visa

Italy

The entry visa is one of the qualifications required by Italian law, in accordance with international and EU regulations, for the entry of non-EU citizens into Italian territory for short or long-term stays for work purposes.

Pursuant to Legislative Decree No 286/1998 (Consolidated Act on Immigration), Art 22, para 5, the Single Desk for Immigration, once the authorisation for subordinate work has been issued, provides for the electronic transmission of the same and of all the documentation to the Italian consular representatives of the country of origin or of permanent residence of the non-EU citizen, competent for the issue of the entry visa.

At the same time, in the case of entry and stay in the Italian territory for self-employment, the diplomatic representations acquire the authorisation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry possibly competent in relation to the activity that the foreigner intends to carry out (Consolidated Act, Art 26, para 5).
