6.3.5 Foreign Income and Gains regime

From 6 April 2025, the remittance basis of taxation is abolished. This is replaced by a scheme linked to the number of years of UK residency called the 'foreign income and gains' (FIG) regime (see Simon's Taxes E6.300). Abolition of the remittance basis from 6 April 2025. The remittance rules are still relevant due to the temporary repatriation facility (TRF) and its provisions relating to previously unremitted foreign income and gains that are remitted on or after 6 April 2025 (see 6.3.6).
