Medicare Levy
Medicare is the publicly funded health care system in Australia, and is the main way Australian citizens and permanent residents fund their access to health care in Australia, either by partially or fully covering the cost of primary health care services in the public and private health care system. In addition, many Australians hold private health insurance that further reduces the out-of-pocket expenditure that would otherwise be incurred.
Medicare is notionally financed through the federal tax system and the following levies are charged to assist in that funding:
