Land tax

Purchasers should be aware of holding costs to which property owners may be subjected. Land Tax is levied by state\territory governments at varying rates on an annual basis, based on the value of the property. The one exception is the Northern Territory, which does not impose land tax. Surcharges apply in some circumstances.

In SA, NSW, QLD, Tasmania, Victoria and the ACT, for instance, a surcharge applies to land held by foreign persons.
