Working in an EU country and living in the UK or vice versa is likely to have an impact on social security benefits and notably on healthcare, unemployment benefits, family or retirement benefits.

Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 lays the foundations for social security law in force concerning the free movement for workers within the EEA. This regulation determines which country's social security legislation will apply to the global worker. Although this Regulation does not apply to the UK anymore, the UK has social security agreements with the EU.
Under the Withdrawal Agreement applicable during the implementation period (prior to 31 December 2020), health insurance coverage did not change. Global workers continued to qualify for the same benefits under the same rules as previously, based on the S1 Form.
