FR2.2.5 Other practicalities to consider from the landlord's viewpoint

The security deposit cannot be greater than one month's rent excluding service fees for unfurnished accommodation and two month's rent for furnished accommodation.

(Article 25 of Law No 2014-366 of 24 March 2014 on access to housing and the regeneration of urban planning)

Landlords can take insurance against the non-payment of rent or alternatively, require from the tenant to name a guarantor who will cover any debts subsequently incurred. This guarantor may be a private individual (family member, friend, etc) or a legal entity (bank or other organization)
