IR3.5.2 Employing children

Republic of Ireland

Under the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act 1996 employers cannot employ children under age 16 in regular full-time employments. Children under age 14 cannot be employed. Children aged 14–15 years of age may be employed as follows:

  1. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý doing light work during school holidays – the child must have at least 21 days off work during this time

  2. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý as part of an approved work experience or educational programme where work is not harmful
