SG2.6.5 Philanthropic purpose trust

For a wealthy individual, it is not uncommon that philanthropy would feature as one part of his wealth management plans. Such an individual may be motivated to adopt a charitable giving strategy as part of his wealth transfer planning in light of the ability to benefit society while managing tax considerations.

The Singapore government is a known purveyor of giving back to the society and encourages philanthropic foreign charitable organisations or foreign grant makers to come to Singapore by putting in place various generous tax incentives. With effect from the YA 2008, all charities registered in Singapore and those exempt from registration per the Charities Act enjoy automatic tax exemption under SITA, s 13(1)(zm).

In the 2023 Budget announcement, the Singapore government has extended the 250% tax deduction to 31 December 2026 for donations made to any Institution of Public Character (IPC),
