Value added tax (VAT) is the UK sales tax. As such it is added to most goods and services sold by VAT-registered businesses. See UK1.5.4 and UK2.8.6.

Stamp taxes are payable when an interest in a land (freehold or leasehold) is purchased in the UK. The type of stamp tax payable depends on where in the UK the property is sited.
