The 2017 amendment to the Employment Act introduced significant changes in this area.

Where the employer is contemplating redundancies of 20 or more employees, there is a requirement to consult with either representative trade unions or with staff representatives as to the manner of selection of redundancy, and any measures the employer might take as an alternative
