3.4 Workhours, breaks and overtime

Workhours

The employee's normal working hours cannot exceed eight hours per day and 44 hours per week, allowing compensation and reduction of hours by individual negotiation with the employee or collective bargaining agreement (Brazilian Federal Constitution, Art 7, XIII).

Thus, regular hours for Brazilian workers are, usually, eight hours per day from Monday to Friday and four hours per day on Saturdays.

Nevertheless, the Constitution grants the employer and employee permission to include the four hours on a Saturday in the other days of the week. Therefore, regularly, either the employee works eight hours and forty-eight
