In common with many industrialised countries, Japan seeks to actively encourage the hiring of workers from the disabled community. There is an expectation that private companies should draw a certain number of their workforce from the disabled community. (Act on the Promotion of people with disabilities in employment).
Adherence to this target is monitored through an annual report produced each June, which is submitted to the local Labour Standards Inspection Office.
