Chair Law
From June 2025, employers are required to provide enough seats or chairs with backrests to all employees in their service, in commercial and similar work-centre sectors, for the performance of their duties or for periodic rest during the workday. In the case of periodic rest, seats or chairs with backrests must be in specific areas designated for this purpose at the workplace. Consequently, employers are prohibited from forcing their employees to remain standing during the entire workday and from prohibiting them from periodically taking a seat during their duties. Failure to comply with this generates a fine for employers of between 250 to 2,500 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), meaning the equivalent of between MXN 27,142.50 and MXN 271,425.00.
