1.1ÌýÌýÌýÌý Introduction: overview of the domestic payroll system

Being found within the southwestern Pacific Ocean, New Zealand is situated within the most southwestern part of Polynesia. Comprised of two islands, North and South, its capital is Wellington, located on the North Island, which is also where the largest urban area of Auckland can be found. Across the Tasman Sea, its nearest neighbour is Australia.

New Zealand also includes Tokelau (a dependent territory in the Southern Pacific Ocean), Niue and the Cook Islands (both self-governing island countries in the South Pacific Ocean, in free association with New Zealand), and has a territorial claim in Antarctica called the Ross Dependency.
