9.6 Maternity rights

Trinidad and Tobago

Whilst there is currently no general legislation to support the entitlement to take parental leave, and be paid for that leave, it is a different case where the leave is required by a pregnant worker.

The Maternity Protection Act 2012 Chap 45:47 provides entitlement for all employees to take paid time off to attend ante-natal appointments whilst pregnant, and also to 14 weeks maternity leave, where employees have completed 12 months of continuous service. Additionally, such employees are entitled to receive one month at full pay, and two further months at half pay.
