Within the EAC
Uganda is a member of the East African Community (EAC) which is a regional inter-governmental organisation with the aim of creating regional integration. To this end, it has established a customs union and a common market in the region, and is in the process of creating monetary union in the region with the ultimate aim being a single currency.
The common market protocol allows for the free movement of workers and their families within the region. However, it falls short of eliminating dual coverage and still requires correct work permits being issued (see 9.2 and 6.1.2).
