All employers in the US are required upon hiring each new employee to confirm and document the employee's authorisation for US work on Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. This can involve an analysis by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) of the employer's ability to pay the proffered wage (USCIS.gov).myUSCIS is an organisational account through which employers can manage their obligations electronically.
An employer may hire American citizens and foreign nationals who are permanent residents (green card holders) without restriction and in any capacity. Other foreign nationals may be hired only in accordance with the terms of their US immigration status and visa.
There are two general immigration categories for foreign workers:

•ÌýÌýÌýÌý non-immigrants (temporary residents/workers), and
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý immigrants (permanent residents/workers)
