Where HMRC consider that a person has failed to pay a relevant sum (see A4.616) and holds one or more accounts with a deposit-taker, they may give a notice (an 'information notice') to the deposit-taker requiring it to provide them with certain information1 for the purpose only of determining whether to give a 'hold notice' (see A4.618) to a deposit taker in respect of the person concerned2.
