According to HMRC1, a cryptoasset is a cryptographically secured digital representation of value or contractual rights that can be transferred, stored, or traded electronically. It uses a form of distributed ledger technology (DLT) although not all applications of DLT involve cryptoassets. For a glossary of key terms associated with cryptoassets, see C6.102.
