D7.1270 The taxation of theatrical production companies
A special regime is in place for the taxation of theatrical production companies, applicable for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 September 20141. Where an accounting period straddles this date the periods before and after that date are treated as separate accounting periods and the profits of the company for the straddling period are apportioned between them on a just and reasonable basis2. The rules for theatrical production companies broadly mirror those for film production companies and are detailed in D7.1272–D7.1280. HMRC's guidance on this regime can be found in the Theatre Tax Relief Manual at TTR10000 onwards.
