This article covers the rules for determining 'the invested amount' for any loan, securities or shares comprised in the investment. However, it should be noted that the invested amount may be adjusted in certain cases where value is received (see E3.645, E3.646)1.
Qualifying shares or securities
In the case of a qualifying investment that comprises shares or securites, the invested amount for a tax year (or, for company investors, accounting period) is simply the amount subscribed by the investor2.
Example 1
In August 2006, an individual investor subscribes £20,000 for shares in a CDFI which are redeemable after six years. The invested amount for each year is £20,000 (the amount subscribed).
