The individual must supply his National Insurance number to his employer on request1, and if he has no such number the employer may require him to apply for one, although in practice the employer will now use a NINO Verification Request (NVR) to the RTI Service to check that he is using the correct number (see E8.810).
An employee should notify the NIC&EO of any change of name (eg on marriage)
