What does Secondment mean?

A secondment is the placement of an employee on a temporary basis to a workplace that is not their normal place of work. It is a term that is often associated with temporary assignments abroad, but can apply to a domestic change in workplace, area, or region within the same country. A secondment can also be internal, such as moving between different departments of the same company.
Secondments can attract UK tax relief for travel and subsistence costs, if the employee works continuously in a temporary workplace for period of up to 24 months. If a person is on a secondment abroad, they may be able to remain within their home country social security syst
