Criminal attempts definition

What does Criminal attempts mean?

It is an offence to commit an attempt to commit any indictable offence other than conspiracy, aiding and abetting an offence or assisting offenders or accepting/agreeing to accept consideration for not disclosing information about a relevant offence.

If, with intent to commit an offence other than: conspiracy; aiding and abetting an offence; or assisting offenders; or accepting/agreeing to accept consideration for not disclosing information about a relevant offence, a person does an act which is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the full offence, a person commits an offence even though the facts are such that commission of the full offence is impossible: Criminal Attempts Act 1981 (CAA 1981), ss 1(1), (2). For this purpose, a person shall be regarded as having an intent to commit an offence if, on the facts as he believed them to be, his intention would be so regarded: CAA 1981, s 1(3).
